Webpages are greatly damaged when Google is excluded from AI overview, but there is a benefit when AI is involved in the overview. It is a company according to a new study by Terket, a company that focuses on brand management for global brands.
AI interview benefitsThe webpages displayed in Google's AI overview are benefited from increased traffic, regardless of their original ranking. Note:
- Top-rank (transaction question): The webpages included in the AI observation were 3.2x which were several clicks as pages that were excluded.
- Lower rank (informative questions): Webpages seen in the AI overview had 2x many clicks compared to webpages that appeared on SERP, with no AI overview.
- Low-rank (transaction question): The webpages included in the AI overview were several click vs. results of 3.6X without AI overview.
- Top-rank (transaction question): Webpages with the presence in AI overview had 3.2x many clicks compared to webpages excluded by AI overview.
Information vs. transaction questions. According to the study, webpages are benefited regardless of the intentions. Too:
- Information: The AI overview diverted traffic from webpages in 1-2, but increased traffic for webpages that appeared in 3–10.
- Exchange: Webpages involved in AI overview receive more traffic regardless of the situation on Page 1 of Google.
Why do we care? The presence of Google AI shows how explorers behave and can move traffic away from pages that once traditionally dominate organic results. If you have rely on visibility from appearing in top Google Serp posts in recent years, you should no longer assume that traffic will be followed.
What are they saying The author of the report, senior data scientist of Terket etc. Shrikanth said:
- “… We can say that speaking is usually being kept out of one [AI Overviews] Average and significant disadvantage for a webpage. Conversely, being included in one [AI Overview] There are clear benefits for webpage. And overall, the presence of [AI Overviews] Web traffic changes dramatically in webpage. ,
Effect on traffic. Education technology company Cheg Google is sueing Google due to the negative impact of AI interview on its traffic and revenue. We also found some additional fresh insights on the traffic effect of AI overview from a pair of Nerdwallet and Ziff Davis earnings.

- Vivek Shah, CEO of Zif Davis: “The AI overview results exist in just 12% of our top questions. … Our analysis of the year clicks through the year's analysis rates, especially comparing questions with similar posts that now include AI interviews, no content on the performance shows a total effect. … In our analysis of those questions where AI overviews exist or exist today, but not present in the past and our search rank remained unchanged, the overall click through the rate is also relatively unchanged. ,Add,
